The course will benefit:
Anyone who needs to begin to communicate without becoming aggressive, standing firm on what the want to achieve, yet recognising the rights and needs of the other parties involved.

Purpose:
This course aims to raise the awareness of participants of what truly assertive behaviour is, and how to begin to develop a more assertive approach to inter-personal relationships.

Course Participants will acquire new knowledge and skills regarding:

The theoretical basis of this subject – and current academic thinking

Definitions of different behaviour types

The impact of language and body language in interpersonal communications

How and when to be assertive

The practice and use of assertive techniques

Modules:

Defining assertiveness

Setting Limits and being able to say “NO”

Being assertive in the right situations

Asking for what we want

Non-verbal methods of asserting one's ideas

Difference between Avoiding/Accommodating/Aggressive/Assertive behaviour

Dealing with anger, fear, emotion

Looking for the Win/Win outcomes

Action planning: The lessons of the course and how they may be applied practically. How can delegates adapt, and what will they do differently? What delegates will stop, continue and start to do.
