Competencies: are the things people must be able to do, to a given standard, in order to perform satisfactorily in a job

There are many categories of competence. For Example: product and company knowledge; professional or technical competence; management competence; team working competence

The starting point for Assessment and Feedback is choosing specific competencies, and setting the appropriate standards. Standards can be set by reference to Management Charter Initiatives, Professional Bodies and the like. Technical Skills are very specific to a particular profession or job.

In 360 Degree Assessment, individuals get feedback on their performance from a variety of people who can observe them in day to day activities.




They get a complete and rounded picture of where they need to develop in these skills, provided by their manager, peers, staff and other important contacts e.g. customers.

The strength of the process is that it gives the individual the opportunity to compare their thoughts with a representative sample from ALL the groups of people they work with.

OPTIC360 is a computer-based system that is used by Europa to administer the 360° Assessment and Feedback process and analyse the resulting data.

OPTIC360 produces questionnaires for each participant reflecting the competencies needed in their particular job. To obtain a rating of their performance in each area, participants complete a Self-Inventory and select a number of people to complete Feedback Questionnaires.

Administration of the questionnaires can be by paper, email or the web.
